The first week of the transfer window has blown by in a blur and Premier League clubs are yet to hit double figures for incoming deals, with only Liverpool among the established top six completing a new signing.

Arsenal are expected to add to their ranks before the end of the month though, with Mikel Arteta presented with his first opportunity to put his own imprint onto the squad at the Emirates Stadium.

After beating Manchester United last time out in the Premier League, the Gunners are looking to make it two consecutive wins in the league for the first time since August when they travel to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

While the focus will be on that match, the transfer rumours continue to rumble away in the background and we have gathered some of the latest snippets below.

Brazilian wonderkid eyed

Having enjoyed success with the capture of Gabriel Martinelli in the summer, Arsenal are now said to be in the race for another Brazilian talent in the January transfer market.

Brazilian outlet Globoesporte states Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen are fighting for the signature of 17-year-old full-back Yan Couto, who played a key role in his nation’s win at the Under-17 World Cup in November.

Yet to make his senior debut for Coritiba, it is stated that the South American side are prepared to sell for £4.2million and a deal is expected to be secured ‘in the coming days’, with the club keen to offload this month as his current deal expires in the summer.

Arsenal ‘pressing’ for Lihadji

Arsenal remain in the hunt for Marseille talent Isaac Lihadji and are one of the clubs ‘pressing’ for the services of the 17-year-old, according to L’Equipe via Sport Witness.

The Ligue 1 side have withdrawn their contract offer to the teenager, sparking a frenzy in the market as Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Sevilla and Benfica are all rivalling the Gunners in the market.

However, it’s not excluded that Lihadji could have a change of heart, with Andre Villas-Boas fond of the player, and Arsenal still have work to do either way as Lille and Dortmund are said to be leading the chase.

Umtiti transfer boost

Arsenal’s quest to bolster the centre of their defence has been provided with a boost as Barcelona are ready to offload Samuel Umtiti, according to Spanish outlet El Desmarque.

The France international, a close friend of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, looks poised for an exit from Catalonia and a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham and Manchester United also said to be eyeing his services.

The 26-year-old has managed just five appearances in the league for Barcelona this season, with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet ahead of him in the pecking order.
