Exclusive: Major Eddie Nketiah transfer development

Leeds United are expecting Arsenal to recall Eddie Nketiah from his season-long loan in January, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League giants can exercise a mid-season recall clause in Nketiah’s contract if he has not played a stipulated number of minutes.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club have now started actively looking at strikers to replace the 20-year-old in the January window.

The Championship promotion hopefuls are planning for the eventuality of Nketiah heading back to Emirates Stadium at the first opportunity.

That means the England Under-21 international, who is currently out injured, may be available for selection by Marcelo Bielsa only up until the 29 December clash against Birmingham City.

It would also leave United with just one senior centre-forward in Patrick Bamford.

That would be a potentially perilous position for the Yorkshire giants as they look to build upon their fine start to the season and secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Nketiah has not started a single Championship match for Leeds since signing from Arsenal in August.

However, he has made a big impact as a substitute, scoring three goals in 10 sub appearances in the league as well as a further two strikes from his League Cup appearances.

Yet, Nketiah’s total of 430 minutes of first-team action is not what Arsenal would have had in mind for their prolific young striker when loaning him out to a second-tier club.

Notwithstanding the fact that he has missed the last three games due to injury, the forward was the clear understudy to Bamford.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club’s Kiko Casilla hopes rise after significant developments behind the scenes.
