Celtic star James Forrest has signed a new contract which will see him stay at Celtic Park until the summer of 2023, the club announced on Wednesday.

The attacker has had his ups and downs at the Hoops since making his debut way back in 2010. Over the last few seasons though he’s emerged as one of the best and most effective performers at the club.

His excellent contribution under Brendan Rodgers has transferred to the new Neil Lennon era. This season he’s already scored nine goals and assisted 11 more in 21 appearances.

With many more expected, he’s well on his way to having another stellar season.

Now 28, his new contract will ensure he spends his peak years in Glasgow.

The player was clearly delighted to extend his deal, telling celticfc.net: “I love it here. I came through the Youth Academy and every year I just enjoy it more. I’m absolutely delighted to extend my stay here and I’m looking forward to winning more league titles and cups with the club.

“The last couple of years especially have been unbelievable. When you keep winning trophies it makes you eager and wanting to strive to win more. That pushes you on for more and I want to keep winning as much as I can.”

That trophy hunt continues tonight at home to St Mirren, with the Hoops hoping to pick up another three points in the Scottish Premiership.

No doubt Forrest will play a crucial role if he starts.
