Noel Whelan claimed that Tottenham full-back Ryan Sessegnon is capable of transforming the club’s fortunes for the better.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Leeds United and Coventry City attacker sung Sessgenon’s praises and described him as being a massive asset to Spurs.
Sessegnon joined Tottenham from Fulham in the summer and is yet to feature for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Whelan revealed he was confident that Sessegnon could improve Pochettino’s current options and pointed out he was a player not only for the future but for the present.
When asked if Sessegnon would be able to improve Spurs’ current side, Whelan told Football Insider: “Yeah I think he can, that’s why Pochettino went out and bought him in the summer.
“It was grumbling on for a number of years that Sessegnon would be leaving Fulham and Tottenham got in there first and they’ve got a very good young attacking full-back there and he’s a player who is there for both the future and the present.
“They’ll bring him back gradually but when he is fit, he’ll be a massive asset to that team.”
The 19-year-old, who can be deployed as a left-back or left-winger, is yet to make his Spurs debut due to a hamstring injury but Pochettino recently confirmed that Sessegnon had returned to full training.
Sessegnon played 120 times for Fulham before leaving Craven Cottage to join Spurs and 35 of those appearances came in the Premier League last season.
In other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson urged Spurs to raid a Premier League rival in order to sign this outstanding defender.
