Arsenal fans aren’t overly happy with Granit Xhaka being given the captaincy.

Unai Emery has announced that Granit Xhaka will be Arsenal’s new captain.

The Gunners‘ armband has been officially vacant since Laurent Koscielny left North London this past summer after nine years with the club.

Xhaka has been captaining Arsenal on a provisional basis since, but Emery has confirmed that he is now the permanent skipper.

The Swiss midfielder isn’t the most popular player among fans of the Emirates club and is prone to an error.

And suffice to say that quite a few Arsenal fans aren’t behind Emery’s decision to give the armband to him.

Here’s their reaction:

Unai should be sacked for that decision

I’m totally convinced that Xhaka has Emery’s nudes.

Ridiculous decision and shows your level of ignorance. You ought to have been able to say “no explanation required” – no chance with this guy.

‍♂️‍♂️ This will be the hill you die on Unai. Terrible decision.

It must be noted that there isn’t a huge amount of candidates, which in itself represents a problem and perhaps says a lot about Arsenal’s squad.

Xhaka isn’t the ideal candidate, but he probably is the best of a bad bunch and time will tell how he reacts to the pressure.

The likes of Tony Adams, Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry have been Arsenal captains over the past two decades and it’ll be interesting to see if Xhaka rises to the task.

His first game as permanent skipper comes on Monday away at Manchester United.
