Ever since arriving at the club, Christian Eriksen has been Tottenham’s chief playmaker. He is consistent each and every season in providing a hefty number of assists and goals.

However, Pochettino has chosen to bench him more often than not so far this season, with the transfer window still rumbling on.

Tottenham struggled against Aston Villa until the Great Dane came on and masterminded three late goals. Spurs then lost to Newcastle at home, with Eriksen on the bench again.

I have heard talk at games that Pochettino should be starting the playmaker and that this would solve the majority of Tottenham’s problems, but I feel they are missing the point.

The team that Poch played against the Magpies had Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, Heung Min Son, Erik Lamela, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko… players who should and do have the capabilities to unlock a defence and score a goal.

The problem at Spurs does not boil down to one player starting or not starting. A team without Eriksen should still be rolling over the likes of Newcastle.

If Spurs want to win something this year, they have to take a long hard look at the entire squad, as no single player is stepping up at the moment.

It’s a team full of unenthused, fatigued, and below-par players. Eriksen does not fix that.
