The final day of Glorious Goodwood and the first weekend of the Sky Bet EFL season are both covered in Saturday’s Bets of the Day.

Racing

Matt Brocklebank

Saeed bin Suroor has his team in excellent shape at present and Land Of Legends has contributed to a decent summer for the trainer with two wins in June.

He justified market confidence to get the job done with authority on his handicap debut at Newmarket’s July course when last seen and a 5lb rise for seeing off the experienced Reputation with something to spare is considered a touch lenient from the assessor.

We could certainly be dealing with a potential Pattern performer here and the son of Iffraaj is well drawn in stall four for the Qatar Handicap, the penultimate race at Glorious Goodwood.

Ben Linfoot

I’ve taken two against the field in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood but preference is for Lake Volta.

He gets a 6lb pull at the weights with the other Value Bet selection, Air Raid, on their Hamilton Stewards’ Cup run and he’s going to love the good to firm ground.

He won over the Stewards’ Cup course and distance on such conditions earlier this season off just a 2lb lower mark, doing it easily by a few lengths, from a good field including subsequent winner Tis Marvellous.

Drawn in one on the far side, he’s going to be prominent and, after holding his form well in big-field handicaps all summer, he could take some pegging back at fancy prices.

Simon Holt

Puds – 1.50 Goodwood

Successful over five furlongs here in May, Puds has followed up with a second to Lake Volta (didn’t get the clearest of runs) and then chased home the subsequently listed placed Richenza (now rated 6lb higher) on a softer surface, both over this course and distance.

In a race in which many of her rivals lack consistency, she looks sure to run her race in the hands of Shane Kelly.

Football

Tom Carnduff

The striker hit five goals, despite injuries, for Deportivo Alavés in LaLiga last season and was expected to depart Swansea this summer.

However, Steve Cooper has included Baston in his preparations, and with Oli McBurnie having departed, the forward is set to feature.

Against a poor Hull side who have many problems of their own, Baston can start the campaign with a goal.

Peterborough possess so much quality going forward that it wouldn’t be the worst shout to say that they could finish as the top scorers in this division.

The London Road faithful will be hoping that they demonstrate that on opening day, with goals expected from the home side in victory over Fleetwood.

Paul Higham

Based on what we’ve seen so far this summer, City seem to be just a step ahead of Liverpool in their preparations and the Reds may well have to use this game as a stepping stone for fitness and match sharpness ahead of their early start to the season on Friday.

There may be no Aguero, Jesus or Mahrez, but there are plenty of attacking options left for Guardiola and the fact of the matter is that City have a better depth of quality in their squad than Liverpool, so if the first-teamers are only playing bit parts in this game the advantage has to go to the Premier League champions.

It should be a relatively low-scoring affair given the respect between the two teams and it being pre-season still, but we should have a 90 minute winner, and while Raheem Sterling hasn’t played great against his former side since swapping Anfield for the Etihad, he usually shows up at Wembley and in the central role he’s expected to play he’s a huge fancy to find the net.

Formula One

F1 Insider: Hungarian Grand Prix

Two of the last three races at the Hungaroring have passed off without a safety-car period, and the odds for another uninterrupted afternoon of racing look fair at 6/4.

Six of the 11 events this season have seen Bernd Maylander twiddling his thumbs rather than controlling the field in his rasping AMG Merc, and last Sunday’s busy weekend may be the last time he’s called upon before the summer break.

The Hungaroring can see niggly contact but high-speed collisions are rare and its spacious run-off areas allow cars to rejoin the track rather than require extricating from the barriers.

All in all, 6/4 is a fair price for no safety car to be deployed.
